Tips for new Livedrive users

July 14, 2010 by Eric Din

I’ve been using Livedrive Backup and Briefcase for about a year now. It’s pretty self-explanatory, but here’s a few helpful hints for you when you get started, based on my own user experience.

1. After you get receive your account info, and log in for the first time, you should change your password right away, for added security. They don’t force you to do that, but I recommend it.

2. Once you have the Livedrive app downloaded and installed, go to Preferences, hit the Bandwidth tab, and check the “Encrypt” option (see screenshot below), also for added security.

3. Select the folders you want to back up.

4. When you run Livedrive for the first time, it’ll take a while to upload all your stuff to your new cloud backup. Unless you’re on a T1 or higher, this may tend to slow down your connection while the upload is running. I left mine running at night when I got my first bunches of GB;’s uploaded. You can pause the upload while you use your computer, or pull the “Bandwidth” control down so it still backs up in the background, but leaves you enough bandwidth to work with.
