This just in from Livedrive. This is a feature I’ve hoped we’d see. Elephant customers feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about this. If you’re not a Livedrive user yet and are interested in getting an account, also get in touch for pricing and details. You can email us thru this contact page. Cheers, Eric
“We listened to what customers thought of Version 3 of the desktop software, and one key thing stood out – customers wanted to change their cache location. Today we have brought this feature back in version 4.1 of the software.
When a user installs the software for the first time there is now an “advanced” button displayed on the Livedrive window before starting the initial install. This window enables the user to change the location of their cached files. If the customer has files saved in their Briefcase and chose to store those files on their computer, the files will be stored in their cache. Some backup diagnostic logs and the database are also stored in the cache but those are likely to be much smaller in size.
If a customer has a small amount of space on their primary drive, changing the cache location to a larger internal drive or an always connected external HDD could be a good option for them.
If a current customer already has the Livedrive desktop software installed, they can update to version 4.1 to make sure they have the latest bug fixes. If they would like to change the cache location, they will need to uninstall the software and remove settings and then reinstall it again.
You can download the software from the Livedrive portal.
